A hugely versatile option, Trek’s Checkpoint SL6 Disc Gravel Bike can be loaded up for far-flung adventures, stripped down for fast gravel rides or used as a daily commuter with mudguards and rack.

The 500 Series OCLV Carbon frame incorporates Trek’s innovative IsoSpeed decoupler for more compliance off-road without compromising the bike’s stiffness or efficiency, and the plethora of mounting points allow multiple bottles, luggage, and even mudguards to be securely carried. There is sufficient frame clearance for 45mm tyres for great traction and comfort whilst the Bontrager Paradigm Comp wheels have a 25mm inner width which increases the effective width and volume of any tyre.

Shimano’s gravel-specific GRX groupset is the perfect match, with the 2x11-speed setup perfect for its wide-ranging brief. The double chainring and 11-34 cassette allow a good spread of ratios without the big jumps that can occur in 1x systems, and the flat-mount hydraulic disc brakes look neat and provide plenty of control and power in any conditions.

The inclusion of the Stranglehold Dropout means that the chainstay can effectively be lengthened to fine-tune the bike’s geometry, or allows a single-speed drivetrain to be used for those who relish an extra challenge.
